holiday greetings

Reflection:
1) I think me and my partner did the music volumes real well. We were able to hear our voices in the video over the music, but the music was at a level where you can tell what music was playing. I also think that we selected our picture backgrounds really well. It was a little difficult to find some of the pictures being copy-right friendly. The Adobe system crashed on us multiple times during the making of this video and it hindered our ability to be creative because i only had a little time to edit.
2) Something i seen in other videos that i would have really liked to do would be to have different transition effects. They seemed to make the video pop more and we didnt have any of that. The effects grabbed my attention and made me realize that our video was rather boring without them.
3) In my groups video i did all of the editing. I was in charge of making the in and out points in the video. Another thing i did was put the backgrounds on the greenscreen and put all of the clips together. I took the citations that were done by my partner and put them into our ending credits.
4) I helped my partner find some music and the pictures. We were able to find copy-right friendly pictures and music together. I also helped her with the citations of the music and pictures. My partner helped me with the editing. They looked over the video when it was done and gave me feedback about my in and out points and the volume levels and such.
5) If we had another chance to complete this project, the main thing that i would do is add transition effects. I would have also included some special effects if i could. This would have made our video more entertaining and grab peoples attention. I would have also liked to make it funny because i am a funny guy and i like to make people laugh.I would have done a bit more editing to make the whole video flow smoother and finally i would have liked to put in more music.

5 things i learned part 3

from 0:03-0:50, i noticed that even though the subject was centered in the screen, the title was on the lower and left third, which was a good effect. I learned that there was alot of ways to bring text and titles into the video. In 1:16-1:40, i could see that the title did not appear as soon as the interview started, rather a little into the video. It was a good change in pace than the others. I feel that all of the interviews dragged on a little bit and made the video somewhat "bland". At 2:00-2:25, i learned that a change of pace in the middle of the video was good with quick cuts and very interesting transitioning and the way the words came into the video.

5 things i learned part 2

From 0:00 to 0:02, the colorful title popped out and grabbed my attention. At 0:10-0:23, the videos music really kept my focus and then when the video sped up to match the music exactly how i would have wanted, really made me wanna keep watching. In all of the interviews the music was lowered to a correct level which made the voices of the interviewees, who spoke very clearly, stand out and seem to talk to you. From 0:59-1:07, the part where Sabrena talks and walks while the camera follows is a really good effect and the people in the classroom working and talking made me feel like i have been there. All of the clip transitions worked well with then in and out points and made the video flow well like at 2:03.

5 things i learned part 1

From 0:02-0:10, there was a few quick cuts that were very smoother and started the mood up. They also panned across a room to give a broader view of the setting. At 0:11-0:28, they had a very interesting titles frame around the interviewee but had them centered, which went away from the rule of thirds. That part was ended by a very crazy ball effect that transitioned to the next clip. 0:37-0:55 was a scene that started with the subject not in view, but then shifted slowly to the subject for a very proffesional looking effect. They also used the zoom control on the camera to bring the subject into view as well. All throughout the video,i believe the camera controls were used to the best they could and they did an excellent job with transitioning through clips.

Cyberbullying Final Draft

Out of the whole video, i was most satisfied with the quick cuts and the in and out points that we chose. Like in the beginning when we cut to different kinds of cell phones, we got good feedback from that. It brought up the tempo of the whole video and got peoples attention. Comments from other people that were helpful were ones about the volume levels of the music and the peoples voice being interviewd. We were able to find the problem and fix it so that the volume level all throughout the video was correctly measured. One thing we changed in the final draft was we added words that crawled into the screen on the ending scene. This brought more attention in a rather "boring" part of the video and conveyed the message more. With another day or two to work on the project, i honestly cannot think of anything else to modify on our video. Even with the chance to do the project over again, i personally would not change a thing from our final draft. A big thing we discovered while creating the video was correcting audio levels. We had to make sure that the voice was loud enough to hear over the music, but not loud enough as to completely block off the music or stand out too much. Another thing we learned was using transitioning effects. This captured alot of attention from our audience.
Overall i think this was a great project where all aspects of the video from the editing to the facts came together really well.

Greenscreen Workshop

The greenscreen is a background that allows you can and exchange it for another one. It is important to get a simple green with no shadow or any other colors in it, for this will make it really hard to take out. It is important that if the person is wearing green clothing, they remove it or that part will be taken out as well. Using Adobe After Effects was easier because it allowed you to do more detailed work. Overall it was a good learning workshop.

Titles3_DeLeon

This is an example of an template title, which means a full title appears under the clip. You might use this kind of title when you are introducing somebody.

Titles2_DeLeon

This is an example of an overlay title, which means the title is in the clip. You might use this kind of title when you want to give names of people.

Titles1_De Leon

This is an example of a still title, which means that it is just words before the clip. You might use this kind of title when you are introducing a clip

Lifting Project

A simple cut in the timeline means the clip gets taken out. When you cut, the other clips in the timeline are still in the same spot.
A ripple edit is when a clip is deleted and the others move to fill in_. You do this by right clicking and selecting ripple delete. When you ripple delete, the other clips to the right of the deleted clip shift to the left to fill in the blank.
Lifting and extracting are two ways to cut clips at one time. To do this, you select cut after right clicking, then select the extract button on the bottom of the top right fram box. Lifting is like taking out, while extracting is like making room for, in terms of what happens to the other clips in the timeline.
This is an example of an lifting edit. I decided to lift the two clips where I did because it flowed with the rest of the video smoothly

Insert Project

This is an example of an insert edit. An insert edit places a clip inside of another clip. To do this, you drag the clip you want to insert where you want it while holding the Ctrl clip. I decided to insert the 2nd clip where I did because it makes sense with the video and gives the clips a good flow between each other.

The difference between an overlay and an insert edit is an insert edit, you make space for the clip and it makes the entire clip longer, in an overlay edit the clip is just placed over the clip. You would use an overlay when you want the clip that is being added to take up space, while you’d use an insert edit when you want the clip to be extended, making room for the clip. In this case the insert edit works better because you see even more of the clip than you would in the overlay.

Overlay Workshop

This is an example of an overlay edit. An overlay edit places a clip on top of another to show an effect. To do this, you click on the timeline and drag the desired clip over the other one. I decided to overlay the 2nd clip where I did because it works together and flows similar to a professionaly done video.

The Spirit of a Baler

I think the video came out good and i am getting better at the placement of the start and end points on the clips. I should have put in a few more clips to make the video longer but it will work. I am happy with the order that the clips are in and how they match up. On my next project, i will remember to add a credits slide at the end of the video. I would also like to learn how to add sound on the title and credits slide.

My partner and i worked together on this project. One way i helped was i helped pick out the clips and where to put them in the video. One challenge we faced was exporting the video to a different format so that it could be uploaded to youtube. Overall this was an interesting and fun project for the both of us.

Monday, August 29, 2011

This was a very interesting 1st project. The editing was fun and we tried to make the person look as good as we could. The end of our video was cut off a little bit for some unknown reason. The video crashed on us at one time while trying to convert it into a flash video to post on youtube and this blog. Overall it was fun to learn how to do all this neat stuff with video editing programs.

Patience

The message of the video is being patient. The video shows a little boy stepping in wet cement that a guy has just laid, and instead of getting mad and yelling at the kid, he helps the kid out of the wet cement and fixes what the kid did.
